Thoughts on Talents Today while I was thinking about which child I was going to
assign a certain task to, a thought came to me, “Which child has God–given
talent in this area?” I’m not sure
why it had not occurred to me before, but as I have pondered it a bit more I
would like to share what I discovered. Some of us (God’s children) are gifted in the area of
organization. Why would we assign
a job in the kitchen where it is on display all the time to a child with no
organizational skills? Wouldn’t it
make more sense to assign an organized child with that job so that they can
shine in their God-given talent?
What about the cleaning of your dishes? When you serve a meal do you want
to inspect each piece of silverware as you are getting things prepared for an
impromptu meal with quests that dropped by? What if you assigned that job to a child who would make a
great Inspector #10? As that child
is setting the table, they are carefully inspecting each piece.
What about the area of finances in your homes? If this is a struggle, see if there are
ways to work together—one working toward saving, the other paying bills and
keeping the budget running smoothly.
The same can be said for the local church. Each person has gifts (talents) that
God has given them. Maybe they can
use their talent at sewing to sew buttons on for people. Maybe they are handy with fix-it up
type projects and can help someone that has a leak. Maybe some can sing to a person in the hospital, or play
cards or checkers with someone in a retirement home, or help feed people at a
mission.
God did not give each of us the same gifts or talents. He distributed them according to His
will, purpose, and plan. He wants
those gifts to be used to bless others.
In turn, He knows that it will bless us.Let’s help men, women, and children to find a place that
they can thrive in the local church and community using their God-given
talents.
