Congratulations To Pastor Les and Sharon Potts
January 25, 2012
Congratulations To Pastor Les and Sharon Potts! We celebrate 25 years of fruitful ministry and affirm you both for fulfilling our mission to “make disciples, develop leaders, plant churches and send missionaries.”
You have been our movement’s finest examples of attaining to God’s vision as Senior Pastors of Open Bible Christian Center, Rapid City, South Dakota.
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. I Thessalonians 5:12-13

Latest Round of North Dakota Flooding and Local Church Helps Evacuees!
May 27, 2011
The Missouri River in North Dakota is exceeding flood stage and it threatens cities and towns along its banks. This includes the cities of Bismarck and Mandan.
Record snows and an exceptionally wet spring across the Missouri River basin have accounted for all-time high seasonal flows into the system, swelling reservoirs such as North Dakota's Lake Sakakawea, America's largest man-made lake.
Consequently, the Army Corps of Engineers, who manages the system of six dams on the river, is forced to flush the lakes, moving massive amounts of water downstream to prevent overflow. Preventing flooding and overflow problems is usually an early summer activity for the Corps in years when the basin has record or near-record precipitation; however, at this time, due to the massive influx of early season runoff, flushes need to be executed now.
Flows to flush the system north of Bismarck-Mandan have been increased from the Garrison Dam (Lake Sakakawea) from 60,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 105,000 cfs this week alone, with an increase to 120,000 cfs in the coming days. The previous all-time high for release came in 1975 at 64,200 cfs.
The record volume of water coming into the system means a flood threat in portions of communities built in the historical floodplain, including North Dakota’s capitol, her sister city across the river (Mandan) and downstream in South Dakota’s capitol city where 500 homes are currently threatened by Corps of Engineer releases from Oahe Dam and reservoir.
Floodwaters are already backing up into south Bismarck and portions of east Mandan. Evacuations have displaced tens of thousands with residents heading for higher and drier ground today.
The worst still lies ahead as the window for this event is projected to last for 2-3 months minimum, as this current flood threat results only from moisture captured in winter and spring moisture now flowing from the lower and mid-elevations of the basin. The annual spring flush resulting from snowmelt in Rocky Mountain ranges within the Missouri River drainage hasn’t begun in full earnest yet, while 1-5 feet of new snow has fallen in the mountains the past 10 days. The record snowfalls there will prolong the flooding.
In typical prairie fashion, the residents of Bismarck-Mandan have rolled up their sleeves, gone to work and Prairie Family Church has been right in the thick of it. While one PFC household has had property threatened (the church youth group used their Wednesday meeting time to load up the contents of those members’ home and get out), the church has also availed themselves to extended friends, family and co-workers.
Teams of church members mobilized to fill sand bags, sand bag homes, move furniture and provide food and water this week according to Rev. Greg Carr, pastor of Prairie Family Church and director of Men of Promise and Purpose, the men’s ministry of Mountain/Plains Region of Open Bible Churches, Inc.
Amidst the exhaustion, sore muscles, vehicle breakdowns from being pushed so hard and the sorrow that comes from watching waters swallow up home after home, Carr commends the people of PFC via email: “You are being the hands of God during this time and you are making a difference in people's lives.”
Christian syndicate K Love Radio interviewed Pastor Carr to bring national attention this breaking story. Carr apprised the K-Love audience of the situation on the ground, what can be done, what his congregation is doing, the flood’s impact locally and downstream into the already-flooded Mississippi River Valley as well as calling for citywide Christian unity and prayer.
As of Friday, May 27 teams from Prairie Family Church have helped 20 families that Carr is aware of. The church will also be hosting displaced folks in campers on her property until the disaster is past and folks can rebuild their homes or choose to relocate to other emergency locations. In an email earlier this morning, Pastor Carr encouraged the church to keep pressing ahead: “(Keep) filling sand bags, taking water to volunteer workers, providing food for workers and those affected, and most importantly you can pray.”
Carr encourages anyone from our Mountain/Plains Region family of churches that wants to help in any way to contact him as soon as possible on his cell phone at (701) 390-7585 or the church (701) 250-6759. Thus far, every request for assistance that has come to the office, PFC has been able to fulfill.
Hispanic Ministries In Mountain Plains Region
May 5, 2011
The Mountain/Plains Region of Open Bible Churches Board of Directors announced the creation of a formal Hispanic Ministries department today. The department will begin ministry activity immediately, according to Regional Executive Director, Chuck Loftis.
Loftis is thrilled to introduce ministry directors Don and Margaret Smith, who have been serving Mountain/Plains Region in what he describes as “an informal way” for a few years as Hispanic Ministry representatives. However, according to Loftis, he along with the Board of Directors sense God’s timing in formalizing the ministry to include specific activities focusing on pastoral care and church planting.
Don and Margaret Smith state that they “…are thankful for the confidence of their leadership and believe God for great things…” in the official launch of this regional ministry department.
Currently, Mountain/Plains Region enjoys two churches of predominantly Hispanic members (Nebraska and Colorado) and fellowship with others in Nebraska, South Dakota and Colorado.
The Smiths have been Open Bible ministers since 1953 serving as pastors in South Dakota, Iowa and California and with distinction as missionaries in Cuba, Spain and Mexico. It is the combination of these that makes the Smiths excellent liaisons between the Hispanic and non-Hispanic ministry communities, ministers with incredible cross-cultural abilities and the perfect fit inside what Holy Spirit is doing is doing in Mountain/Plains Region, according to Loftis.

Incredible Response to Hardin Church Outreach!
For Open Bible churches seeking to make a great impact on their community, one of their sister churches has a unique, and what they believe is a powerful, suggestion to do so in 2011 or 2012.
Reverend Richard Freese, senior pastor of Hardin Open Bible Church, Hardin, MT reports that, as a result of the church's recent hosting and presentation of the popular, "Heaven's Gates & Hell's Flames" ministry that 137 people responded for salvation calls over three nights.
Mountain/Plains Region Executive Director, Chuck Loftis, also reports, "It was an incredible sight - and refreshing - to see such a move of God! My family and I were privileged to attend the first night's presentation and witness 35 people flock to the front of the HOBC sanctuary in response to an invitation for salvation. The sanctuary was nearly filled. This is the sort of exciting local church efforts that Mountain/Plains is delighted to partner with!"
Hardin Open Bible Church applied and qualified for a grant offered to churches of the Mountain/Plains Region seeking to having a community impact through outreach. Grants range up to $1000.00 and require a strong follow-up strategy on behalf of the local church.
Pastor Freese shares that the subsequent nights' presentations were "full houses" and that even four of the actors who signed on to help (in response to a community-wide casting call) accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.
Leading the production were the team's directors, Reverend Don and Deby White of Reality Ministries, Inc., international presenters/producers of "Heaven's Gates & Hell's Flames." Don and Deby eagerly expressed their desire to be in even more Mountain/Plains churches in the next couple of years and are endorsed by Pastor Freese.

Spirit of Life Church, Kearney, NE Welcomes New Staff!
Pastors Greg and Kathleen Mast announce that Jonathan and Becky Lumbard have recently become the Leadership Pastors at Spirit of Life Church in Kearney, NE. The Lumbards will oversee youth, college age, young adults, and are helping to start a school of ministry. Jonathan’s bottom line responsibility is to help raise up leaders in the local church. Most recently Jonathan and his wife transitioned to Nebraska from being staff pastors at a regional prayer missions base just north of Cedar Rapids, IA (Wind and Fire Ministries). They were apart of all aspects of that ministry from helping to sustain night and day prayer and worship to being a part of the Center To Restore Trafficked and Exploited Children (CRTEC). Jonathan and Becky met each other just under three and a half years ago towards the end of his time directing the Des Moines Master’s Commission discipleship school (based out of Eastwood Church of the Open Bible). They just celebrated their two year anniversary last April and are excited for this next phase of life in Kearney, NE as well as involvement in Mountain Plains Region Open Bible Churches.
Local Pastor Reports Salvations!
Freshwater Home Fellowship (Peyton, CO) pastor Peter Larsen reports that he was privileged to share the gospel with approximately a dozen attendees at the El Paso County Fair in Calhan, CO.
Serving in the booth sponsored by the local Full Gospel Businesmen's Association, Larsen was able to share with passersby who stopped and engaged in discussion concerning the group's purpose and/or other matters.
Pastor Larsen reports that, of the twelve, two responded to the good news for the first time in their lives - in fact, both stated they had never heard the message of Jesus Christ's substitutionary death on the cross despite having attended church when younger.
Pastor Peter encourages us to pray for the other ten - including a Muslim man - that the Holy Spirit will water the good seed of the gospel shared at his county's fair.

Men of Promise and Purpose Camp Out News!
Thank God for His wonderful creation!
Twenty-eight (28) men from five churches gathered together in the Big Horn Mountains near Buffalo, WY June 24-27, 2010 for the MPR Men's Camp Out.
It was an awesome time making new friends and re-kindling old friendships. During our time in the Big Horns we were able to see first hand God's handiwork as we hiked, fished, whitewater rafted, and sat by the fire.
On Friday night, Bob GreyEagle, worship director of Prairie Family Church in Bismarck, ND, shared his testimony of how God transformed his life. Bob had made a number of poor choices in his younger years which could have landed him in prison or even dead, but through the power of God's grace, Bob gave his heart to Christ and turned his life around. The men who attended this year's camp sat around the camp fire, listening intently, as Bob shared his story of God's grace. It was encouraging to one and all.
Thanks to Chuck Loftis, Pete Kopp, Curt Kraft, and Terry Stevahn for all their help in making this year's MPR Men's Camp Out a success. We are planning another camp out next year, sometime in July.

2010 Mexico Construction Mission Trip Report
On April 22-30, 2010, team of 13 people from Open Bible Christian Center, Rapid City spent the week working with our missionaries Del and Joy Brown, Dave and Toni Philips, and Bill and Fayth McConnell in Imuris, Mexico.
First, God put together the perfect team for what we needed to accomplish. Everyone on the team worked hard physically all week, but they also showed the love of God to the men at the Rehabilitation Ranch and the Women’s Prison. We painted several buildings inside and out, painted porches, completed the handicap dorms by putting a roof on, laying a cement wrap- around porch, building a porch overhang, putting in windows, and doors, framing the windows and doors. We also installed an indoor toilet and tiled a shower area, and dug the septic holes behind the building. Our team completed another dorm by putting in all the windows and doors.
On Wednesday, some of the team went to the Women’s Prison for the weekly Bible study. We also helped serve the girl’s lunch. This was a time of listening to the girl’s testimonies, giving our testimonies and praying for each of them. Very powerful day!
Our team spent one afternoon at the teen orphanage playing games with the kids and cooking lunch together.
A dental outreach was held at the Men’s Rehab. and the Women’s Prison. We worked several long days pulling teeth, filling cavities, and doing some cosmetic fixes.
Sunday, we attended Church service at the Open Bible Church in Nogales, Mexico. Wednesday, we also had the opportunity to have Chapel with the men at the Rehab. What an amazing time with God that was. It was just God’s people worshipping Him and praying for each other. Most humbling was when the men at the Rehab. Ranch continuously gave thanks to God for sending them help. We were asked to stand in front at the end of the service and the men all reached their hands towards us and prayed for us! Very humbling! God’s presence was so evident and I know I speak for everyone on the team when I say it was a life changing moment spiritually!
On the last day, we completed everything we set out to do, so we purchased more paint and went to the orphanage and painted the inside of the Chapel.
OBCC Mexico Mission Team ended our trip feeling very grateful to have had the opportunity to work hard for God and show His love to our brothers and sisters in Mexico.

Everfound concert held in Billings, MT
On April 20 Open Bible Christian Center, Billings, MT hosted a concert by the group, Everfound. Everfound is a Christian family traveling full time across the country setting up outreach concerts. They have performed over 150 concerts in the last 10 months. The single "She Said" was voted the 2009 National Best Song of the Year in the Semi-pro category at the GMA's Immerse Conference in Nashville. You can hear the band at www.everfoundmusic.com. This was the second time Everfound held a concert at the church. The Billings Outlaws, an indoor football team, also attended the concert. They set up a table to sign autographs. Hansen Music donated drum heads that the band members signed for a drawing. It was the largest crowd OBCC has had for a concert at the church. It is the church's goal to host concerts 4 times per year, according to pastor Ron Rager.
News from Open Bible Church, Worden, Montana
There are currently several Bible studies meeting each week. A Bible study for women meets weekly with 14 to 16 women attending. The Men of Valor study meets each Thursday at 6 AM at the Boardwalk Café. On Wednesday evening at 7 PM there is an adult bible study that is directed by Ron Ohlin, Mack Delcamp, and John Eshleman. This is also very well attended.
The Thrift Shop has been in operation for 5 years. It is run completely by volunteers. It is open 5 days a week and raises about $250 - $300 monthly. The money raised is used for various projects. Money was sent to Haiti after the earthquake. It is used frequently with items from the store as well as financially to help local families in need. We helped one family who had a house fire. We help local school children when they need supplies or clothes.
The worship team has been blessed with new members and a new vision. We are looking forward to starting a youth program this next year.

Open Bible Christian Center's 55th Anniversary!
April 1, 2010
Over the weekend of March 13-14, Open Bible Christian Center, Billings, Montana, celebrated her 55th Anniversary. It was a celebration of each person who has ever attended the church, making it what it is today.

There were many who attended OBCC in years past that came to help them celebrate. Pictures of members both past and present were posted on all the walls of the church. A fine article was printed in the Billings Gazette on Saturday, March 13, showing the original Open Bible Church at the corner of Avenue D and 13th Street as well as the present building.
